ReplyDeleteWhy not pray for them both together? Chaya Henna bat Rivka and Reb Menachem ben Rivka?
ReplyDeleteAnd please, Menachem, tell us how you are doing.
Thank you so much for your concern and caring, and to all my dear readers who have sent me comments and private Emails.
DeleteOne of the nicest aspects of Jewish prayer is that we pray in the plural. When we pray for someone who is ill, with financial problems, with marital problems, looking for a spouse, etc, we always say it in the plural to help that individual and anyone else who may have the problem.
During the silent Shemonah Esrei, the prayer asking for healing starts with the words: "heal us." If we have an individual who needs Hashem's help we only need think about that person. Hashem knows our thoughts before we do, and knows exactly who we are wanting to receive a speedy recovery. There is an extra prayer in our prayer books that can be added during this prayer for healing that allows us to say names of all we want to help. Yet, the extra prayer ends with a request that they should be healed with all those of Israel who need healing.
I personally have greatly improved, but more importantly, I have received Teshuvah for deficiencies in my performance in serving Hashem. Illness is not punishment, but a form of Teshuvah that helps the person who is ill. Thank you Hashem; only You know what I need, and You help me achieve it.
I will certainly pray for the complete healing of your sister and for you that you might continue to bless all of us with your wisdom and encouragement.
ReplyDeleteHow can I write to you privately, Rav Menachem?

ReplyDeleteI thank you so much for your effort to help.
DeleteI have posted several times how prayer works. I have dozens of stories about how people have received a speedy recovery through prayer (even miraculous recovery).
This situation with my sister has a hidden blessing from Hashem. My sister is secular and has never been interested in making Aliyah to Israel. Her daughter, our niece, has been investigating assisted living places for my sister (in Michigan where they live). The costs are outrageous. When I offered to have my sister come live with me, that my wife and I can take care of her, she likes the idea and is saying yes. Her daughter, who is not about to let her mother move about 8 thousand miles away is frantically looking for a place for my sister to live.
This is all Hashem at work. My sister sounds like a different person due to her situation, which Hashem put her in. The thought of her moving to Israel, and becoming frum, about a year ago, was out of the question. Now, Hashem changed her mind and blessed us with a big success in helping my dear sister. She knows that she will have only Kosher food available and that she will become Shomer Shabbos, B"H.
I also let her know that we have no problem finding a good Jewish doctor here. That helped. In fact the clinic where our family doctor works (one of the best doctors I have ever had in my life) is a 15 second walk from our apartment. My theory is: the closer you are to a clinic, the less you need it. I used to go there much more when I lived further away.
It is all good news and I can't thank my readers enough, and of course Hashem, for all the help and concern. We are truly blessed.
